If you're burned out on The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol, there's another traditional Christmas performance that combines high culture with a kid-friendly story. This weekend, LONG LEAF OPERA COMPANY presents its annual performance of AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS, a story about a crippled shepherd boy who sees an unusual star in the sky and is visited by three kings on their way to follow it. Long Leaf is known for well-produced performances that appeal to wide audiences, not just opera buffs. Amahl is one act, in English, and the company's voices are sure to get you in the holiday spirit. Shows are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at East Chapel Hill High School's auditorium. Tickets are $16 and $10 for students, with group discounts available. To reserve tickets (it does sell out), go to www.longleafopera.org or call 338-2642.
