In laud music

Barbarito Torres, the wild man of the laud (a Cuban style of mandolin) and acoustic guitar, is at it again with a new eponymous album of country music a lo cubano just released this September. This comes hot on the heels of the June reissue of Havana Cafe--his 1999 solo debut, which became a world music classic after the blockbuster Buena Vista Social Club album. (The mustachioed Torres can be seen playing his laud behind his back, Hendrix-style, in a memorable scene from the Buena Vista Social Club movie.) Come see him rock out at the Cat's Cradle this Sunday, Oct. 26. Things can get pretty rambunctious at any Cuban dance party, so don't expect to spare your shoe leather. 8:30 p.m.967-9053 for details. $20.
