Fanboys the world over will forever debate the supremacy of Star Wars over Lord of the Rings and vice versa. Regardless of who is correct, Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films have cashed in big at the box office and have taken home numerous Oscars, including Best Picture in 2004 for The Return of the King. The popular trilogy makes its way to Movies on the Lawn at the N.C. Museum of Art this week in Raleigh. The Museum Park Cinema has been a summertime tradition for thousands in the Triangle and should be packed for this series. Check the weather--there's a chance of summer showers all three days--but unless it's pouring at night, that should hardly impede the legion of Frodo fans and wannabe wizards.

The Fellowship of the Ring, Aug 26; The Two Towers, Aug 27; The Return of the King, Aug 28. All shows start at 8:30 p.m. $15 for the 3-film package, $6 general admission, $3 for children 2-12, and $4 for NCMA members.
