Jazz pianist Harry Pickens performs in the Triangle this week as part of North Carolina's International Jazz Festival. Pickens actually studied under the jazz fest's director, Paul Jeffrey, back in his Rutgers University days. The session player, recording artist and instructor has played with such jazz greats as Slide Hampton, Milt Jackson and Dizzy Gillespie, as well as contemporary artists like Ralph Peterson and Wallace Roney. When he's not performing, Pickens lectures professionally on how music can help people to enrich their lives. Pickens performs this Friday, March 29, at the Baldwin Auditorium on Duke's East Campus.
