Durham's Hayti community--once the center of black businesses, music and arts--is seasoned with the numerous contributions of African Americans to the city. In celebration of this history and these contributions, the third annual Phoenix festival--Durham's only street musical festival--returns with an all-day event, featuring musicians, vendors and edibles. An 11 a.m. parade up Fayetteville Street begins the festival. Durham bluesman Bobby Hinton is the headliner. Fayetteville Street, Saturday, Sept. 25, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Free.
