In funky soul

Each Saturday night, house heads pound the plywood at Retail Bar as a line-up of local and guest DJs toss house music and freaky light effects every which way but loose. Since the inception of Extrasensory Group's Housewarming, those who crave an ounce of the music know consistently where to find it. Svelte drummer and lead vocalist Christian Urich, keyboardist Ethan White, and bassist Jason Kriveloff have become favored guests at ESG's weekly house party. This Brooklyn-based "house" band better known as Tortured Soul are a groove-greedy trio who deliver the infectious thump of house music live enough to keep the dance floor club-kid friendly. If funky soul sounds evocative of Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder, the New Deal, and Fela Kuti are up your alley, swing by the house--14 W. Martin Street--and be prepared to stay awhile. $5.
