'Tis the season for heartwarming stories of human triumph. ALLAN GURGANUS, the Hillsborough-based author of Plays Well with Others and White People, brings his tale A FOOL'S CHRISTMAS to the Regulator Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. A work of oral fiction originally commissioned for NPR's All Things Considered, it tells the story of an extraordinary day in the life of Vernon Ricketts, the manager of a mall pet shop who reaches out to a pregnant runaway teenager during the Christmas shopping season. With her boyfriend on his third tour of duty in Iraq and her parents none too happy with her pregnancy, the young girl turns to Vernon in desperation. Amid yelping puppies and gurgling fish tanks, she delivers a baby boy and gives new meaning to the mall nativity scene. Call 286-2700 for info.
