Nestled comfortably in the musical time of the mid-'50s, Big Sandy and gang hail from Southern California, where Sandy cut his teeth in the roots scene some 20 years ago. The trio has recently worked in more elements of vibrant Latino rhythm and blues, a longtime source of inspiration in their sound. With a penchant for rockabilly and early rock 'n' roll (the svelte Elvis and steel guitar variety), Big Sandy and his Flyrite Boys play dance-friendly numbers, alternating between swinging country-tinged cuts and smokier bad seed music that could fit nicely in a true crime flick. They're splitting the show into two sets (8 p.m. and 9 p.m.), so get there early to sample both batches of this spicy stew. 967-9053 for information.
