Nicaragua native CESAR OVIEDO fell for music as a kid, playing bass with a jazz-fusion band before shipping to Managua to study at the National Conservatory of Music. Since immigrating into the United States, he has led bands in Miami and San Francisco and now in his present home of Winston-Salem, and his current Latin American Combo combines the winds and reeds of Temptations collaborator Steve Blake, the percussion and voices of Jose Sanchez and Maria Isabel Vasquez, the double bass of Nathan Scott, and Oviedo's own singing and keyboards. Their performance on Sunday, Jan. 8 at the N.C. Museum of History's Daniels Auditorium is part of PineCone's new Music of the Carolinas series.
