Maire Ni Chathasaigh has ranked among Ireland's leading harpists since her teens, reinventing the instrument on her 1985 album, The New Strung Harp, by applying it to traditional dance music. Chris Newman enjoyed success as a jazz and pop guitarist before applying himself to traditional Celtic music some 15 years ago, leading to his current seat with the legendary Scots group The Boys of the Lough. The pair (pictured right) have performed together since 1987, releasing four records of their rare and passionate music. Triangle Music International brings them to Raleigh's N.C. Museum of History for an 8 p.m. concert Saturday, March 18. Tickets are $10 at the door, $8 for TMI members. Call 787-8066 for info. --Art Menius
