It's not often you get a chance to see a retrospective exhibit for an artist who is still alive and working. This week, not only will five decades of Edna Arnow's pottery be on display at Claymakers Gallery, but the 80-year-old potter herself will be lecturing on her influences on Jan. 14 at 3 p.m. While Arnow's particular brand of pottery falls under the category of "functional," fellow artist Dorothy Davis says her work shows "elegance, taste and a distinctive streak of creativity--it just says 'Edna.'" That elegance has earned Arnow (pictured) a place in dozens of shows, including one at the Art Institute of Chicago, but this is the first time anyone has looked back on her entire career: Five pieces from each decade will be on display. The open house runs from 1-5 p.m.; Claymakers is located at 705 Foster St. in Durham. Call 530-8355 for more information.
