Popular author Carl Hiaasen (pictured) will be dropping into the Triangle this week to read from his new book, Basket Case. In this novel, Hiaasen gets back to his roots with a mystery story flavored with humor. Jack Tagger, formerly a hotshot investigative reporter, has been reduced to writing obits for a South Florida daily. When Jimmy Stoma, front man of a local band, is found dead in a scuba "accident," Tagger decides it's just the moment to take his investigative reporting skills out of mothballs and revive his reporting career--if he can find out what happened. With clues from the dead singer's music, Tagger unravels Stomas's fate. Hear Hiaasen read from Basket Case Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. at The Regulator Bookshop in Durham and Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at McIntyre's Fine Books in Pittsboro's Fearrington Village Center.
