In blues

Just when his performance of the blues seems to take you straight to the Mississippi Delta circa 1939, Keb' Mo's warm personality and complex musicianship reveal themselves with an unexpected pop turn. Keb' Mo' has reached the summit of the blues field because he transcends revivalism with a powerful dose of originality, composing a dozen songs for his 1998 release, Slow Down. PineCone brings this extraordinary roots music artist to Stewart Theatre in N.C. State's Talley Student Center for an 8 p.m. concert on Thursday. Tickets (515-1100) are $27 for the public, $20 for PineCone members, and $17 for students. --Art Menius
