A truly inspired assortment of local musicians will be donating their time and goodwill to the Independent Animal Rescue Benefit this Saturday, Sept. 22, featuring the $2 Pistols, Mayflies USA, Trailer Bride and Snatches of Pink. Cat's Cradle owner Frank Heath is donating the use of his club in honor of his cat, Sugar (pictured), who died recently. IAR places animals that would--at the very least--fall through the cracks or, in the case of breeds such as pit bulls and chows, be immediately put down. The group, funded entirely by donations, will be on hand to distribute information about their services (you can usually meet a rescued pet or two, if you arrive early). Besides finding adoptive homes for unwanted, abused and neglected animals, IAR arranges foster homes until rescued pets can be placed, and distributes food to people who are feeding strays. Visit for details. Call 967-9053 for more details about the show. --Angie Carlson
