Unfortunately, the anniversary party for alt-country bible No Depression that was to take place at The Brewery this Monday, Sept. 10, is now off. No Depression co-editor Peter Blackstock was informed that the party's headliner, Billy Joe Shaver, has had to cancel his entire Southeastern tour: He suffered a heart attack and had to undergo quadruple-bypass surgery last week. Shades of N.C. producer Don Dixon, who had an emergency bypass earlier this summer. There's a benefit for Dixon, who didn't have health insurance, this Saturday, Sept. 8, at The Brewery in Raleigh. Call 834-1718 for details. --Angie Carlson

DiamondDiamondDiamondThere'll be another benefit for R.A.I.N.N. (Rape, Abuse & Incest Network) at The Humble Pie in Raleigh this Sunday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. Besides live music by Jas. Mathus & His Knock Down Society and Taz Halloween, Glitter Films will be showing some short films, and there'll be a spoken-word performance by Lisa McCool. DJ Flux will be on hand to spin, and the event will feature a raffle and door prizes. R.A.I.N.N. is entirely supported by the private sector and offers free, confidential counseling 24 hours a day through their hotline, (800) 656-HOPE.
