Several North Carolina performers will be joining forces for a benefit concert to raise money for their friend Kathy Leahan, who's in the middle of a battle with breast cancer. The 35-year-old Leahan, who's an employee of Cisco Systems and a member of Raleigh's women's ice hockey team, the Trailblazers, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 33. After surgery and chemotherapy, she lived cancer-free until March, when medical tests showed the cancer had returned and spread to her liver and brain. Folk singer-songwriter Jamie Anderson will be headlining the concert. One reviewer has said of Anderson: "Imagine Joni Mitchell if she could crack wise and write funny songs ... but Anderson uses humor to take the sting out of and broach serious subjects as well." The benefit performance will also feature the music of singer-songwriters Kim Buchanan, Pete Leary and Rebecca Jane. Hear them Friday, July 13, at Cary's Six String Café and Music Hall.
