Have we all collectively jumped into a time machine? Austin Powers is returning to the '70s, progressive values are suddenly on the rise--and beads are back! The Piedmont Intergalactic Bead Festival is hosting over 30 vendors from 16 states, who will show their modern beads, bead books, supplies and jewelry at the Big Barn Convention Center in Hillsborough from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4. Local bead wholesaler and retailer Catherine Newton will be among the show's participants, along with renowned artisans Lea Zinke, JoAnn Allard and Cheryl McIntosh, who will be demonstrating the art of glass bead making.
