Imaginary Invalid

When: Oct. 24-Nov. 11 2012

Dominique Serrand, co-founder of the Tony-winning Theatre de la Jeune Lune, reinterprets Molière's final comedy about a wealthy hypochondriac who gets taught a few lessons by those around him. Ironically, Molière himself inspired a great amount of theatrical hypochondria when he collapsed on stage at the end of his performance as the lead, and subsequently died; as he was wearing green, it became a thespian superstition that wearing green on stage was bad luck. It'll be very interesting to see what lead Steven Epp wears in this new adaptation commissioned by PlayMakers. Wednesday's opening show is at 7:30 p.m.; performances continue Tuesdays–Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through Nov. 11, with an additional matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. Tickets run $15-$50. —Zack Smith
