I'm Not Racist...Am I?

When: Tue., Feb. 24, 7 p.m. 2015

CAROLINA FRIENDS SCHOOL—For his 2010 documentary The Prep School Negro, Philadelphia-bred filmmaker André Robert Lee visited his former prep school, Germantown Friends School, and confronted past experiences of isolation and assimilation as a black, low-income kid attending an elite, majority-white institution. Upon his return, one of his former teachers told him, "You are a big part of my pedagogy." Now, paying it forward, Lee's newest film transforms the pedagogical into the therapeutic, following the emotional arcs of a dozen socioeconomically diverse New York City teenagers over the span of a year. It adds to a conversation about America's current polarizing buzz word: racism. Lee will be present for a Q&A. Durham Academy also hosts a screening at Kenan Auditorium Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. 7 p.m., free, 4809 Friends School Rd., Durham, 919-383-6602, www.cfsnc.org. —Eric Tullis
