Ian Anderson

When: Sat., Oct. 4, 8 p.m. 2014

When rock featured as many weirdoes as narcissists, Ian Anderson wedded Celtic flute-folk to progressive hard rock on the epic, idiosyncratic Aqualung. He was Jethro Tull’s principal songwriter for more than 40 years. Absent the band’s heft, Anderson’s music tends toward grand, sweeping motions, the musical equivalent of a large and colorful Calder mobile. Anderson’s latest, Homo Erraticus, offers a keen, concept-heavy critique of European cultural dissolution. —Chris Parker
