I Love My Hair When It's Good: And Then Again When It Looks Defiant and Impressive

When: March 8-17 2012

Hair represents a distinct part of African-American culture, particularly among women. My knowledge of this comes entirely from the controversial children's picture book Nappy Hair. But here's an opportunity to learn some follicle factoids in this multimedia presentation by Chaunesti Webb, which explores the complex relationship African-American women have with their hair and features "interview text, original sound and music, video, and installations." This might sound like a lot, but there's a lot that goes on with hair.

The performance runs March 8–11 and 14–17; all shows are at 8:15 p.m. except for Sunday, May 11, which is a 3:15 p.m. matinee. Tickets are $17 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows and $12 for Wednesday and Thursday shows, with $2 discounts for students and military and $5 tickets for students with ID. —Zack Smith
