How I Learned to Drive

When: April 13-17, 8 p.m. and Sun., April 18, 3 p.m. 2010

Playwright Paula Vogel's 1998 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, How I Learned to Drive, centers on protagonist Li'l Bit and the incestuous relationship she has with her Uncle Peck well into adulthood. Set in 1960s rural Maryland, this disturbing but often funny tale was first performed in New York's noted Vineyard Theatre with Weeds star Mary-Louise Parker originating the role of Lil' Bit and David Morse playing the uncle. Its poignant story examines the ideas of control and manipulation via misogyny, incest and pedophilia. —Belem Destefani
