Home Movie Day

When: Sat., Oct. 19, 1-4 p.m. 2013

Get those old film reels out of the shoebox in the closet. Fetch those clunky VHS cassettes from the box in the garage. You can see those old memories again, projected at Home Movie Day. Co-sponsored by the Film Studies Program at N.C. State, the North Carolina State Archives and AV Geeks Transfer Services, the Raleigh Home Movie Day event is only one of many going on simultaneously around the world. In addition to giving people the opportunity to bring long-languishing images to life on a theater screen, the event also helps archivists spread the word about the historical importance of the medium of small-gauge film and advocate for its preservation. Audience members often narrate their footage, prompting laughter and tears as family vacations, weddings, holidays and other slices of decades-past life flicker by. And you could even win a prize playing home-movie bingo. —Chris Vitiello
