High Plains Drifter and 3:10 to Yuma

When: Fri., June 7, 7 p.m. 2013

The legends of the West ride large at RetroClassics. First, Clint Eastwood is pretty much the Devil in 1973's High Plains Drifter, a grim tale of a stranger cleaning up a small town in which the symbolism is this side of obvious (hint: he has all the buildings painted red). Then it's back to 1957 for 3:10 to Yuma, the recently remade tale of getting a convict on a train with the clock running out and outlaws coming to kill him. One of the first adaptations of an Elmore Leonard story, it's also one of the best 1950s Westerns, with killer suspense and black-and-white cinematography. Kick up your spurs, grab a beer and remember what the West was like, on film anyway.—Zack Smith
