"Hidden Icon in Plain Sight"

When: Wed., May 7, 4:30-7 p.m. 2014

North Carolina Modernist Houses hosts a free public open house of the iconic mid-20th century Modernist office building at 3515 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh in hopes of securing a tenant for the building before it is razed. Completed in 1965, architect Milton Small Jr. designed the two-story, building for Northwestern Insurance Company as a twin to a building he designed in Chicago. It was featured in the New York Times in 1965 under the headline, “Taste and Good Design Found in Small Office Buildings.” The public is invited to tour the building and to help NCMH find a new tenant to keep the building from being destroyed. Small’s son, architect Milton Small III, will be on hand from 4:30-5:30 p.m. to answer questions about the building he calls “one of my Dad’s best.”
