Henry Clay People, The Dig

When: Wed., Oct. 13, 9:30 p.m. 2010

A friend of a friend pegged Glendale, Calif.'s The Henry Clay People as "The Hold Steady for the Americana set," a tag supported by Pitchfork's review of the band's new Somewhere on the Golden Coast. It fits: There's a healthy amount of talk-sing in frontguy Joey Siara's approach, and the band's sound carries the echoes of ramshackle anthems past. The "Americana" part is a tougher sell. But with a certain West Coast-gone-rustic feel and an oxymoronic laid-back urgency, there's plenty to appeal to the roots rock crowd. Strokesy New Yorkers The Dig opens. —Rick Cornell
