STACY BLOOM REXRODE: HEIRLOOM-WORTHYROOM 100 AT GOLDEN BELT, DURHAM | FRIDAY, MAY 15

Cultural value comes at a cost: That's the central point of a Durham Art Guild show of Stacy Bloom Rexrode's mixed-media work at Golden Belt. Rexrode, who lives in Chapel Hill, paints and works in sculpture and installations. Her "Quasi-Delft Bequest," a series of plastic plates made to look like fine Delft ceramics with blue magic marker, spans all three practices. Don't merely scan the wall of this dense work—look closely to find a not-so-subtle environmental message in spewing oil derricks, plastic water bottles in verdant landscapes, and nuclear towers lurking behind the Dutch windmills. After this artist's reception, the show runs through May 28. 6–9 p.m., free, 807 E. Main St., Durham, 919-967-7700, www.durhamartguild.org. —Chris Vitiello
