Hearts Like Fists

When: Wednesdays-Saturdays, 8-9:30 p.m. and Sundays, 2-3:30 p.m. Continues through Aug. 10 2014

Superheroes such as the Jade City Pharaoh and the Fathom Town Enforcers have taken to our stages before. But in this inaugural production from Tiny Engine Theatre, a group of female crimefighters—called, in fact, the Crime Fighters—are the only ones who can save the city from the insidious Doctor X. The doctor responded to getting dumped by perfecting an anti-love venom, and he's been injecting young couples with it ever since. Surely the Crime Fighters will stop this fiend—except perhaps for junior member Nina, who notes, "Doctor X is just so exciting. And wrong. So exciting and wrong." The 2010 Village Voice review said of Adam Szymkowicz's "silly, over-the-top" comic book play, "It's goofy. It's absurd. But it hits hard where it counts—right in the ticker." Company cofounder Paul Sapp directs a cast including Kirsten Ehlert, Ryan Ladue and Tara Nicole Williams, with original music by Leopardactyl. —Byron Woods
