HearNC Music Video Festival with Billy Sugarfix, Bibis Ellison, Flashback

When: Thu., Dec. 2, 8 p.m. 2010

The goal of HearNC, says the group's Richard Jaimeyfield, "is to connect artists, local businesses and fans of filmmakers, musicians, dancers, photographers and visual artists in all mediums who live and create art in North Carolina." And the goal of the inaugural HearNC Music Video Festival is to wow. According to Billy Sugarfix, one of the event's four masters of ceremony, "it will include costumes, dancers and a whole host of other things rarely seen in the rock club environment." The gathering will also feature three short sets from North Carolina indie pop singer Bibis Ellison, screenings of a select group from the 50 video submissions and the presentation of awards in four music video categories ranging from Best Portrayal of North Carolina through Music and the Visual Arts to Best Synergy of Music and Movement. The grand finale will boast the evening's best combination of music, dancers, costumes and wow, with a re-creation of the Buggles' MTV-launching "Video Killed the Radio Star" video—all on the very same stage where Jaimeyfield directed the Archers of Loaf's first video, "Web in Front," in the early '90s. Tickets are $10–$12, and the wowing begins at 8 p.m. —Rick Cornell

Price: $10-$12
