Hayes Carll, Corb Lund & the Hurtin' Albertans, Warren Hood

When: Mon., Sept. 23, 8 p.m. 2013

Hayes Carll has graduated from early praise as "the next great Texas troubadour" to status as the current great Texas troubadour, even if he's still a ways from living legends such as Billy Joe Shaver and Joe Ely. Canada's Corb Lund, touring with his band the Hurtin' Albertans, got started a little earlier but has had almost a parallel run to Carll north of the border. Now he's getting known Stateside, thanks to two releases on the prominent roots indie New West. The most intriguing act here is opener Warren Hood, whose new disc includes sparkling supplemental vocals by Suzanna Choffel and was produced by Charlie Sexton. Hood makes a big step from promising sideman and son of the legendary South Carolina/Texas fiddler Champ Hood toward finding his own voice as a major Austin artist. —Peter Blackstock
