Hammer No More the Fingers

When: Wed., June 22, 7 p.m. 2011

From Kings and Cat's Cradle to Motorco and the Busy Bee Cafe, Durham trio Hammer No More the Fingers have taken their athletic, instant indie rock into most every Triangle rock haunt. And each time, they play with the aplomb and assuredness of three longtime friends who know this is exactly what they should be doing, that—in spite of or maybe because of the nostalgic traces in their increasingly urgent tunes—these are the tales they should abide. Joe Hall's guitar lines move with such precision and dexterity that you think he's actually pouring them from the tips of fingers, and Duncan Webster always sings like this is the first time he's relating these lessons. Tonight, they take these songs into the garden, where their roar can stretch and where their harmonies can drift into the sky. You've probably seen this band before, but this open-space show should offer a new, re-endearing context. Admission to the 7 p.m. show is $10; it's $5 for Duke staff and students, and free for kids 12 and under. —Grayson Currin
