Hammer No More the Fingers, Wild Fur, First Person Plural

When: Sat., March 7, 9 p.m. 2015

Wylie Hunter led a country-rock band, while Nick Jaeger has been a sideman or frontman in various incisive rock acts for years, from Roman Candle to his own Tomahawks. There are traces of both in their excellent collaboration Wild Fur, from the narrative-centric songwriting to the easy sense of melody they share. But the wide-screen production, with twinkling keyboards and electronic rhythmic tracks, suggests wider pop ambitions for this exciting prospect. After years of heavy touring and steady recording, the three members of Hammer No More the Fingers devote more of their time to other projects these days. The trio’s chemistry, though, has always been magnetic, so don’t worry that they’ll be rusty. First Person Plural opens; the project of former Annuals bassist and current Lonnie Walker sideman Mike Robinson, the songs take a dark, delightful turn through country murk. —Grayson Haver Currin
