Gustafer Yellowgold

When: Sat., Jan. 21, 11 a.m. 2012

So a few years ago I talked with Morgan Taylor, the mind behind the kid-rock character Gustafer Yellowgold, and did a review of his concert. And danged if his butter-colored, pointy-headed alien didn't charm an entire room full of rowdy kids and have many of their young, hip parents enthralled as well. As with many of the best children's acts today, Gustafer's songs are based in absurdity and weird details (counting to powers of 10 with mustard-colored slugs) that still subtly convey different lessons—and have a good beat. If the thought of enduring more of the Wiggles makes you want to slit your wrists with one of their CDs, fear not! Gustafer Yellowgold is the solution. Tickets to the bright-and-early 11 a.m. show are $10, or $32 for a family four-pack. —Zack Smith

Price: $10 ($32 family 4 pack)
