Gullah Geechee Gala

When: Mon., April 22, 7 p.m. 2013

A new summer program—the Carolina Summer of Service—will send young scholars from NC & SC to live & work with Gullah Geechee community groups in Conway, SC, on projects ranging from cultural history to education, public policy & health. This kickoff event includes a keynote address by Ron Daise, chairman of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission, who will also host a “Gullah Geechee-mania!” game show. The Gullah Geechee are descendants of enslaved Africans; their communities’ remote locations on sea islands from NC to FL helped retain their unique culture, arts & Creole language.
