Grand Opening | Museum of Durham History / Durham History Hub | Arts | Indy Week

Grand Opening

When: Sat., Oct. 12, 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m. 2013

Durham's new community history museum wants to present an accessible history of the area, with a focus on the personal stories of the individuals who live there. The opening exhibits—some permanent and some rotating—include a photographic history of the city's architecture using the work of local high school students, the history of Durham's early hospitals, an interactive touchscreen timeline and a story room, where visitors can record their own stories to be archived. The opening event will feature a parade and roughly 20 acts from all over the Durham area, including the Durham Ukulele ensemble, the Durham Comics Project, the Bouncing Bulldogs, the TROSA band and—in keeping with the oral history emphasis—several professional storytellers. —Mary Alta Feddeman
