Under Israeli law, a woman can only be divorced with a religious document (a "gett") approved by her husband. This patriarchal system comes under fire in the damnedest courtroom drama ever. A desperately unhappy woman (writer/director Ronit Elkabetz) petitions for the simple right to walk away from a bad marriage. The story unfolds in a single court office over the course of five long years. The film is social critique, character study, feminist manifesto and legal drama at once.
