Georg Fredric Handel: Serse

When: Sat., Feb. 27, 7:30 p.m. 2016

Handel’s 1738 opera Serse opens with a countertenor singing a tender love song to his favorite tree—one of the strangest, most beloved opening numbers in opera. With piles of courtly intrigue, the plot only gets more complicated. This semi-staged performance, capping the HIP Festival, is a collaboration between the Mallarmé Chamber Players and the UNC Department of Music, with Brent Wissick conducting from the cello. —Dan Ruccia

Price: $10-$15
