Gaddy-Goodwin Theatre 25th Birthday Party

When: Sat., Aug. 9, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. 2014

Founded in 1936, Raleigh Little Theatre is among the oldest community theaters in the United States. Its black-box space, the Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre, was built in 1989 to house its "City Series" second-stage lineup as well as youth theater performance and education programs. It has nurtured future stars from Clay Aiken to James Denton. To celebrate the theater's 25th birthday, Raleigh Little Theatre is throwing a family-friendly party with events in Gaddy-Goodwin, Stephenson Amphitheatre and the theater's Rose Garden. There will be tours and workshops, sessions with Durham storyteller Ron Jones, Youth Theatre and City Stage retrospective performances, ice cream socials, relay races and face painting—even creative reuse sessions with The Scrap Exchange. If your kids have the theater bug or you're hoping they'll catch it, this is a sure shot. —Brian Howe
