In 2011, the James Beard Foundation named Gabrielle Hamilton the Best Chef in NYC for her work at the East Village restaurant Prune, where she's also the owner. Blood, Bones and Butter: The Inadvertent Education of a Reluctant Chef is her memoir, which covers topics ranging from a childhood bejeweled with her foodie parents' massive outdoor parties to the first time she saw the building that would become Prune; she was impressed by its charm despite the layers of fetid waste, rat urine and cockroaches. Hamilton, who received an MFA in fiction from the University of Michigan, has been lauded for Blood, Bones and Butter, which The New York Times called "brilliantly written" in naming Hamilton "a culinary Cormac McCarthy." Hamilton will read from the book and sign copies of the paperback release at 7 p.m. —Meg Stein
