Fundraiser for Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina

When: Thu., Feb. 24, 8 p.m. 2011

Mel Melton cooks Cajun cuisine and blows the hell out of a harmonica. His restaurant/music venue, Papa Mojo's, offers gumbo and jambalaya to its patrons but also serves up live blues and New Orleans jazz. In addition to good times, Melton brings food and music together tonight for a good cause in the form of a fundraiser for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. The Food Bank has branches in Raleigh and Durham, and distributed over 41.5 million pounds of food and other essentials last fiscal year. It provides 150,000 pounds of food every day to soup kitchens, food pantries and homeless shelters across the area. About 30 percent of the people served are children. Ready to donate yet? Triangle bluesmen flock to Papa Mojo's to play and support the mission. On top of the food and music, a raffle featuring a vintage guitar will help raise funds. The event begins at 8 p.m. —Andrew Ritchey
