La Strada
  • La Strada

N.C. MUSEUM OF ART—Before Fellini became an adjective, before La Dolce Vita and 8 1/2, there was La Strada. Starring Anthony Quinn as a circus strongman and Giulieta Masina as Gelsomina, his unfortunate captive servant, La Strada (The Road) was a tragicomic tale of societal outcasts, a Desolation Row nominally set in the present, but utterly timeless in its themes—it could as well have been set in ancient Rome or the quattrocento. Tonight's 8 p.m. screening wraps up the N.C. Museum's fall series of films from the Janus collection. Visit —David Fellerath

THROUGH THIS LENS—Photography and wine go hand in hand at 5ive, an exhibit featuring work from local women: photographers Kathy Lee, Eleanor Mills, Courtney Reid-Eaton, Roberta Wallace and Mary Walter. Tonight's reception runs from 6-9 p.m. Visit for info. —Karlie Justus

BLUE BAYOU CLUB—The Nighthawks bear the legacies of Muddy Waters and Albert King, offering groovy, soulful blues. Founded in 1972, guitarist Jimmy Thackeray left two decades ago, but latest guitarist Paul Bell sounded wonderful on last year's Blue Moon In Your Eye. Get the blues at 9:30 p.m. —Chris Parker
