DURHAM
MADELEINE PEYROUX & RON SEXSMITH
CAROLINA THEATRE—Canadian born singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith handles hooks better than most other vocalists working right now. His best songs come with choruses so catchy they only take one listen to set in. Sexsmith is such a natural singer, though, that it sounds like he's humming a tune as he's doing his laundry. The 43-year-old Sexsmith keeps getting better, and he's been fantastic for a decade. Trans-continental and -generational song interpreter Madeleine Peyroux headlines. Tickets are $35 and the show begins at 8 p.m. —Grayson Currin

THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES
RALEIGH LITTLE THEATER—The House of Blue Leaves may be a warhorse, but it's one that's featured a long parade of Broadway talent over the years. John Guare's blackly comic tale is set in 1965 Queens and features nuns, a visiting pope, a soldier and a lunatic. A three week run opens tonight.
