FANCY PONIES/BLOAK CITY BOYLESQUE | FRIDAY, FEB. 20, DURHAM

MOTORCO MUSIC HALL—As its name lets on via rampant puns, blOak City Boylesque is a masculine burlesque and performance-art troupe from Raleigh featuring "fit men, circus acts, skits and social commentary." It includes multi-talented artist Adam Dipert, and inspired his partner, Toni Craige, to cook up the all-female troupe Fancy Ponies. At 8 p.m., Fancy Ponies performs a (relatively) traditional 45-minute dance-theater exploration of female sexuality, with some help from Boylesque—insofar as a work promising "ponies, psychoanalysis, fanny packs, bouncy balls, bananas and sexy cowboys" can be called traditional. Then Boylesque follows with one of its wild, racy revues at 9 p.m. It's a gender-studies crash course gone delightfully mad. Each unit has its own show coming up, too; catch Boylesque at Legends in Raleigh (Feb. 26) and Fancy Ponies at The Flowjo in Carrboro (Feb. 27). Formal dress is recommended, if by "formal dress" you mean chaps. 8 p.m., $12, 723 Rigsbee Ave., Durham, 919-901-0875, www.motorcomusic.com. —BrianHowe
