Eurydice | The ArtsCenter | Stage | Indy Week

When: Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. and Sundays, 3 p.m. Continues through May 23 2010

The tale of a musician who travels to the underworld to woo his beloved back from the dead has been an irresistible one for artists ever since its most famous ancient telling, in Ovid's Metamorphoses. Much more recently, the astonishingly prolific young playwright Sarah Ruhl put her own spin on the myth, in a play titled simply Eurydice. Ruhl, a MacArthur genius grant recipient, tells her version from the young woman's point of view, with considerable wit and music to spare. This production, under the direction of Emily Ranii, features the original music of Nathan Logan, who will lead the live accompanying ensemble. —David Fellerath
