Eureka! | UNC Campus: Hanes Art Center | Arts | Indy Week

When: Nov. 11-Dec. 11 2015

ALLCOTT GALLERY AT UNC—One-room galleries present curators with a choice between two extremes: Either go minimal and evoke an artist's oeuvre through a too-small handful of works or go big and pack the room full for an enjoyably overwhelming experience. Curator Jina Valentine is leaping into the latter choice in the small but agile Allcott Gallery with Eureka!, a group show of UNC-Chapel Hill MFA in Art alumni. The show is co-presented by the Process Series and emphasizes the continuing transformation of these artists, whether the ink is hardly dry on their degrees—such as spring 2015 grads Mijoo Kim, Katie Mixon, Eric Pickersgill and Gesche Würfel—or their diplomas have been hanging on a wall for a few years, like MJ Sharp (2007) and James Cicatko (2003). In addition to these artists, the multimedia show also includes work by Emily Beck, Minjin Kang, Damian Stamer, Antoine Williams and many others. Allcott Gallery is located on the first floor of UNC's Hanes Art Center. After this opening reception, Eureka! runs through Dec. 11. 5:30–8 p.m., free, 115 S. Columbia St., Chapel Hill, 919-962-2015. —Chris Vitiello
