Elias String Quartet with Benjamin Hochman

When: Sat., March 21, 8 p.m. 2015

Since the Elias String Quartet are named for Mendelssohn’s oratorio, Elijah, it’s only appropriate that they will perform his final string quartet and one of his darkest works. He composed it after the untimely death of his sister, Fanny (an excellent composer herself). Britten’s third string quartet—and one of his final compositions, too—pairs well, as it’s full of brooding and resignation. Don’t let the subtitle of Mozart’s “dissonance” quartet confuse you, as it is mostly pure Mozartian sunshine and song. —Dan Ruccia

Price: $10-$38
