Durham County Pottery Tour

When: Sat., Nov. 8, 10 a.m. and Sun., Nov. 9, 10 a.m. 2014

SATURDAY, NOV. 8– SUNDAY, NOV. 9, DURHAM

VARIOUS VENUES—Want to buy pot the legal way? This grassroots effort from an independent group of Durham County potters seeks to teach the public about pottery and peddle local earthenware. The 18 participating artists open their studios to walk-in visitors for the weekend, showing and selling everything from plates and bowls to jewelry and decorative objects. Full-time potter Cynthia Aldrich spearheaded the project with help from Jo Lovvorn and Lois Sharpe, all of whom will participate in the tour. You'll see how to build pottery by hand or throw it on a wheel; how to glaze it and how to fire it in a kiln. And if you see something you like, you can buy it directly from the artist. 10–5 p.m. Sat. and noon–5 p.m. Sun., free, 919-544-2451, www.durhamcountypotterytour.com. —Brian Howe
