DURHAM CINEMATHEQUE: FILMISTORY.3 | Duke Campus: East Duke Building | Special Events | Indy Week

Special Events

When: Wed., Nov. 28, 8 p.m. 2012

If you're a bit frantic that holiday screenfuls of digital imagery are being crammed down your optic nerve, take refuge in Tom Whiteside's lo-fi film programs. Yes, film—that strip of celluloid that runs through a motorized projector, remember? Whiteside assembles montages of 20 films that are each more than 100 years old for FILMISTORY.3, a three-screen journey through cinema's earliest years. Paderewski plays a recital, presidents flicker past, Queen Victoria lies in state, a horse escapes, and a revolution begins on a Russian battleship. Part of Duke's Screen/Society schedule, the free one-hour program is screened at 8 p.m. in room 209. Check Durham Cinematheque on Facebook for more.—Chris Vitiello
