Duke Djembe and Afro-Cuban Ensembles

When: Fri., Nov. 11, 8 p.m. 2016

Under the direction of Bradley Simmons, these two popular student-led groups revel in traditional West African rhythms and instrumentation, creating a joyous, immersive experience that has the pull of the ancient and the immediacy of the here and now. Tonight, the groups unite forces with Africa Unplugged, a sextet that draws from a similar West African well but spruces things up with elements of R&B and funk and pop touches. —David Klein
