Duck Sauce Fest with Barron, Ryan Trauley, Devil Wouldnote, Fifty Bird Step, Elfowl

When: Tue., Dec. 14, 9 p.m. 2010

No one's sure whether Duck Sauce is simply a collective or a proper fledgling record label. Regardless, it's an entity orderly enough to host a yearly showcase and lauded enough to requisition the new Kings. Organized by the loose crew's leaders, Matt Kotarba and Frank Meadows, the Duck Sauce Fest is a chance for the core bands to reconnect and share their latest efforts. "The majority of us have been tight for years, some even since middle school," says Tim Surrency of Barron. "We try to [have a] Fest over the holidays while all of our friends are home from college so we can see what tunes everyone has been writing over the past year, and even bring back some favorites." Others sharing in the musical camaraderie include Ryan Trauley, Devil Wouldnote, Fifty Bird Step and Elfowl. Stylistically, the bands tend toward experimental, but there's plenty of variety therein (from flamenco-garage-pop-punk to wispy indie folk) to keep even the uninitiated interested. —Ashley Melzer
